The transition comes with a lot of moving parts

Sending a child off to college is a bittersweet milestones in parenting. You’re proud, excited, and maybe even a little relieved to see them go — but if we’re honest, the transition comes with a lot of moving parts. In a great number of cases the parents are not even in the same state as their child.

Dorm shopping. Packing. Travel arrangements. Tuition deadlines. Campus orientations. On top of that, life at home doesn’t slow down — younger siblings still need rides to school and activities, errands still pile up, and the calendar seems fuller than ever.

College Prep and the parents place

I remember when I was preparing my own kids for these milestones. While I wanted to soak in the special moments, I was also silently panicking:

  • Dorm shopping and move-in prep

  • Who will get them medicine when they are sick?

  • Booking hotels and travel for drop-off weekend

  • I wish they had someone close by to call for help.

  • Coordinating work, family, and school schedules

  • I feel torn apart at not being able to be at their side when they need me.

  • Keeping up with the daily to-do list at home

  • How will they keep up with all the things on their to do list at college?

It’s easy for the excitement to get buried under the stress.
